A Commitment to the Water

Founded by a coalition of dragon boaters, Guardians of Flushing Bay uses human-powered boating to build relationships between local communities and local ecologies.

What to expect on a GoFB tour

From family-friendly public paddling tours to inviting elected officials out on water, GoFB serves as a guide to Flushing Waterways. Launching from Flushing Bay, we guide participants through the various issues Flushing Waterways faces, pointing out combined sewer outfalls that discharge billions of gallons of raw sewage into the water, bulkheads that contribute to shoreline erosion, and development projects that threaten wetland ecologies and contribute to residential displacement.

Monthly dragon boat tours

From May through September, GoFB and our local dragon boat team partners lead free, monthly paddling trips that launch from Pier 1 of the World’s Fair Marina. Each trip accommodates roughly 15 people, ages 14 and older. Each trip is followed by a healthy picnic lunch, courtesy of the NY Presbyterian Mini Grant program.
