President
Akila Simon is a founding member and President of the Board of Directors for Guardians of Flushing Bay. After immigrating to the United States from Trinidad and Tobago and pursuing a degree in Accounting at Adelphi University, Akila served as the financial services auditor for Deloitte Bank and now for UNICEF supporting the financial portfolios of the Child & Community Health, Public Health in Emergencies & Health in Emergencies global initiatives. Akila is a certified dragon boat paddling coach with over 13 years of experience. She is one of the lead coaches of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Employee Wellness Dragon Boat program “MSK,” the Vice President of The Beasts Inc. (an affiliate program to MSK), and the former head coach of the Empire Dragon Boat Team, all of whom practice in Flushing Waterways.
